Systems For Roulette

While many Roulette systems have been developed over the years they cannot overcome the basic unpredictable nature of the game. Some of them require you to risk large sums to obtain modest gains while others require the player to invest large amounts of time trying to find biased wheels. Only you can decide if the rewards are worth the effort.

A couple of simple systems of wagering require little in the way of risk and are easy to implement.

The Parlay
This system has you using all, or some portion of your winnings, to increase your wager whenever you win. The advantage of this system is that you can increase the bet by an amount that you feel comfortable with. You don't have to bet all of your winnings (just a portion of them) plus there is the feeling that you are wagering with the casinos money rather than your own. When your wager loses you start over again by returning to your original betting level until you win and then start to parlay again.

Hedging your Bets
Another simple and easy system is to hedge your bets. To hedge your bets you place several different wagers and hope that at least one of them wins. As an example: if you were to bet on red winning you would hedge this wager with a bet on column two. You now have a chance of winning on 26 numbers; any red number will win (payoff at 1:1), any number in column two will win (payoff 2:1) and the numbers 5, 14, 23 and 32 will win twice (payoff 1:1 and 2:1).

Other simple systems involve potentially having to wager large amounts of money and payoff only modest amounts. All have one flaw. They rely on you winning and losing approximately the same number of times, they will not work if you experience a long losing streak because you will exceed the maximum betting limit on the table.

The Martingale System
This is the best known of the Roulette systems. This system has you doubling your bet each time you lose until you win. This system has you risking large losses but rewards you with only small profits. As an example, placing wagers of $1 per spin on an even bet, losing five times would require that on the sixth spin you wager $32. Wining will payoff $32 but loses on the first five spins totals $31 (for a profit of $1), losing the spin results in a total loss of $63. If you have a run of nine loses you cannot continue using this system, most casino tables have a $500 maximum limit so you cannot wager the $512 required, betting the maximum $500 results in a loss even if you win on the 10th spin.

The D'Alembert System
While not as risky as the Martingale system this system still requires that you increase your bets when losing. You divide your bankroll into several smaller and equal amounts (units). You then start playing by placing a one unit bet on an even bet. With each loss you increase your wager one unit and with each win you decrease your wager one unit. If you win the same number of times as you lose you will end up with a profit. The big problem with this system is that there is no way of knowing if you will win and lose equally.
